Who is responsible
skated. is run by Boppart Digital Precision. For anything about your data, write to hello@skated.app.
skated. is meant for skaters in Switzerland. This policy follows the Swiss Data Protection Act (FADP).
What we store, and why
When you use skated. without an account, nothing about you is stored with us.
When you create an account, we store:
- Your email address, your name and your profile picture. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive these from them. We need them to give you an account and to show others who created a route or wrote a review.
- The routes you save: their line on the map, name, description, photos and whether they are public or only for you.
- Your reviews, ratings, comments and the photos you add to them.
- Which routes you skated and when, the tours you recorded, your goals and your planned tours.
- Who you follow, who follows you, who you blocked, and which routes and activities you liked.
- Reports you send about a route or a review, and requests to delete a route.
- Your settings, such as your skater style and whether you share your activity.
We use all of this only to run the app for you and the other skaters. There is no advertising and no tracking, and we do not sell or pass on your data for other purposes. No decisions about you are made automatically.
On what basis
- To give you an account and the app's features, we process your data because that is what you use the app for (performance of a contract).
- Your location, and sharing your activity with followers, only with your consent. You can take it back at any time: in your phone's settings for the location, in the app's settings for sharing.
- Reports, deletion requests and what admins do with routes, because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the app safe and correct for everyone.
Your location
skated. uses your phone's location only when you ask for it: to show where you are on the map, to record a tour, and to guide you along a route. This also works while the screen is off during a recording, which your phone shows with a notification.
Your position is not sent to us while you move. A recorded track is stored with us only when you save it as a route or share it as a tour.
What others can see
- Public routes, with your name, their photos, reviews and likes, are visible to everyone who uses the app.
- Routes marked "Only for you" are visible to you alone. Their photos are stored at web addresses that are not listed anywhere, but anyone who has such an address can open the photo.
- Your profile, with your name, picture and who you follow and who follows you, is visible to others.
- Your activity (which routes you skated and when, and the tours you share) is visible to people who follow you only if you switch that on. It is off unless you switch it on. Of a shared tour, the first and the last stretch are cut off, so that where you start and end is not shown.
- Admins can see reports and deletion requests, and can edit, take over, hide or delete routes to keep the app in order.
Services that receive data
To work, the app sends data from your phone to these services. Each of them sees your phone's internet address and what is listed here:
- Supabase: stores accounts and all the content named above. Location of the data: Zurich, Switzerland.
- Backblaze and Cloudflare: Backblaze stores the photos of routes and ratings (in Amsterdam, the Netherlands), Cloudflare delivers them to the app.
- Google and Apple: only if you sign in with them.
- Map services (OpenFreeMap, VersaTiles, OpenStreetMap): the part of the map you are looking at.
- Lookup services built on OpenStreetMap (Photon by Komoot, Nominatim, Overpass, OSRM, the FOSSGIS routing server): the place you search for, or the points of a route, to find places, name areas, follow roads and judge traffic.
- OpenTopoData: the points of a route, to read how high the ground is.
- Wikimedia Commons: the area of a route, to suggest a picture for it.
Apart from Supabase and, if you sign in with them, Google or Apple, none of these services learns who you are.
Countries your data can reach this way: Switzerland, countries of the European Union (mainly Germany and the Netherlands), the United Kingdom and the USA. Where a country does not protect personal data to the standard of Switzerland, the transfer rests on the standard contractual clauses recognised by the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, or - for the map and lookup services, which only receive places and your phone's internet address - on the fact that the app cannot show you a map or a route without asking them.
This website
The website skated.app is delivered by Cloudflare. As with any website, Cloudflare sees your device's internet address and keeps it briefly, to deliver the page and protect it from attacks. The website sets no cookies, counts no visits and loads nothing from other providers, not even its font. If you write to us through "Tell me when it's live", we receive your email address and use it only to tell you when the app is out; we delete it on request.
On your phone
The app keeps a copy of routes, settings and a few lookups on your phone so that it starts quickly and works with a poor connection. It uses no cookies for advertising or tracking.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. What you delete in the app is removed from our storage; a route that has been public is removed once an admin has approved its deletion. You can delete your account yourself in the app's settings: your profile, your private routes and their photos, your activity and connections are deleted with it. Routes of yours that have been public are taken out of view and looked at by an admin, who either deletes them or keeps them, without your name. Your reviews of other skaters' routes are taken out of view as well and looked at by an admin, who either deletes them or keeps them with their photos, but without your name or any link to you; if you want one removed, write to us.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to tell you what we store about you, to correct it, to give you a copy, or to delete it. Your account you can delete yourself in the app's settings. For everything else, write to hello@skated.app. We answer within 30 days, free of charge.
You can also turn to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).
Changes
If we change how we handle your data, we update this page and its date.
